SDAG Posts a Successful Oct. Demonstration at SD Botanic Garden, Encinitas

Encinitas, - San Diego Botanic Garden, Ecke Bldg, October 30th, Artist Anne Moore presented a print making demonstration, making for an  inspirational afternoon as over 60 curious beginners, advanced artists gathered with the general public to get a peek at the art of creative printmaking  of Anne Moore

Anne demonstrated her monotype techniques using a small printmaking press. She will discuss various types of printmaking, showing us her step by step process. Anne’s usage of multiple runs through the press creates a rich layering of color. This was a playful and creative process where each print was a unique surprise. .

Each of the prints represented were an original piece of art, created by heart and hand, and the use of a press. The linocuts are made from hand-cut linoleum blocks and reproduced in limited editions. The monotypes are one-of-a-kind (thus "mono"), built up from layers of imaginative forms on inked plates. Each is unique to itself. Printmaking, a delicate art from a heavy press, who’d have thought?

While still very much a student, Anne continued to enjoy the hands-on, contemplative work, the surprise of pulling a new print, the reward of seeing effort, experience and innovation unite. She is especially gratified when the registration is right on; the press pressure is perfect, and when I haven't gotten inky fingerprints on the luscious white paper

The Guild would like to thank Anne Moore for presenting a wonderful demonstration and to Sandy Heath, Programs Chair for coordinating the event.and our PR Photographer, nick Chill.

A special thanks to the City of Encinitas and the Mizel Family Foundation, for assisting us in making this demonstration possible to the public.

Celebrating Our Artists 1 Week of Art

Meet Marinela Roe Farris, a ,jewelry designer and silversmith.  The fourth off four "featured artists"  displaying on October 13th from 5: to 7:30pm at our Off Track Gallery in Encinitas.

Marinela  lives in Leucadia with her husband and two boys. She was born in Greece and raised in Southern California with an education in Fine Arts, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, and Neurobiology. She has had a lifelong passion for creating 3-dimensional art.

Marinela began silversmithing in the Fall of 2009 under the guidance of Deanna Jacobsen at the Art Academy of San Diego. Marinela uses hammers, saws, and torches to form and forge sterling silver sheet and wire into wearable works of art. She is greatly influenced by her Greek heritage; the Greek mati (eye charm), believed to protect the wearer from the “evil eye,” is a repeated theme in her work. The rustic textures and finishes she uses are reminiscent of ancient Greek adornments and primitive hand-made jewelry.

Marinela loves silversmithing and “creating something from nothing.” She enjoys working with her customers to make unique designs and personalized gifts. Marinela is confident in the quality of work she produces and guarantees her workmanship by offering free repairs.
A sampling of Marinela’s silver work can be viewed on Facebook at Marinela Designs, or it can be requested via e-mail. Please contact her at Marinela@cox.net or 760-214-5153.
