Marinela lives in Leucadia with
her husband and two boys. She was born in Greece and raised in Southern
California with an education in Fine Arts, Psychology, Early Childhood Education,
and Neurobiology. She has had a lifelong passion for creating 3-dimensional art.
Marinela began silversmithing in the Fall of
2009 under the guidance of Deanna Jacobsen at the Art Academy of San Diego. Marinela
uses hammers, saws, and torches to form and forge sterling silver sheet and
wire into wearable works of art. She is greatly influenced by her Greek heritage;
the Greek mati (eye charm), believed to protect the wearer from the “evil eye,”
is a repeated theme in her work. The rustic textures and finishes she uses are
reminiscent of ancient Greek adornments and primitive hand-made jewelry.
Marinela loves silversmithing and “creating
something from nothing.” She enjoys working with her customers to make unique
designs and personalized gifts. Marinela is confident in the quality of work
she produces and guarantees her workmanship by offering free repairs.
